High Notes of Jazz Roxbury Walk
Once Boston's "jazz mecca," Lower Roxbury was the site of some of the most famous clubs and after-hours venues on the East Coast, home to hundreds of Pullman Porters, and the stomping grounds for many people who would later become prominent Civil Rights activists. Hear unique and complex narratives, many drawn from personal anecdotes and memories told by former musicians, residents, and club owners, that weave a fascinating tapestry of this historic community and a forgotten period of Boston and American history.
Starts: Ruggles Station, Tremont St. stairway
Ends: Mass Ave Station
Cost: $15, $5 children. Limited to 25 participants.
Dates and times:
April 27, 11am-1pm
June 22, 11am-1pm
Sept 28, 11am-1pm
